Pre-1727
Raja Man Singh Ji invited 5 Sikh Sardars from Afghanistan to start Meenakari (enameling work) in Amber, laying the foundation of Jaipur’s jewellery traditions.
Jaipur’s gemstone legacy predates its 1727 founding, rooted in Amber where Raja Man Singh I invited master artisans. Under Sawai Jai Singh II, the city became a hub for coloured stones like emeralds, rubies, and sapphires-its global stature later cemented by institutions like GJEPC and major trade fairs.
Among the early families shaping this legacy was the Rawat family, originally from Kaladera, Rajasthan. Invited to settle in Jaipur by Sawai Jai Singh II, they were granted homes near the royal mint, now Chandi ki Tiksal. Their formal trade lineage began with M/s Maliram Puranmal Rawat. In 2009, Karan Rawat founded Geminent to carry this heritage forward, culminating in the launch of Geminent Asia Limited in 2023—a modern expression of centuries-old craftsmanship and global ambition.
