Arrival of the Rawat Family

Among the merchant families invited by the Maharaja were the Rawats, originally from Kaladera in Rajasthan. They were granted residences near the royal mint, an area still known as Chandi ki Tiksal (the Silver Mint). Their settlement marked the beginning of a long association between the Rawat family and Jaipur’s gem and jewellery trade.

Establishing the Legacy
Named after Mr. Maliram Ji Rawat and his son Mr. Puranmal Ji Rawat (Karan’s great-grandfather), M/s Maliram Puranmal Rawat became the foundation of the family’s business presence in Jaipur. The firm built its reputation on integrity, fine craftsmanship, and trusted trade relationships, contributing to the city’s emerging role as a key gemstone centre.

Recognition as India’s Coloured Gemstone Hub

The formation of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) marked Jaipur’s official recognition as the country’s coloured stone capital. By this time, exports reached approximately ₹4.5 crore in diamonds and ₹5 crore in coloured gemstones. Jaipur, alongside Bangkok, emerged as a twin global hub for coloured stone artistry and trade.

Expansion and Modernisation

As global gemstone sourcing expanded to regions such as Zambia, Brazil, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Ethiopia, Jaipur’s industry adapted and grew. Testing laboratories, gemological institutes, and training centres were established to support technical excellence. Jaipur-based traders and jewellers gained international visibility through participation in global exhibitions such as Baselworld, Hong Kong, and Tucson, strengthening the city’s status in the world gem trade.

Establishment of Geminent

Continuing the family’s heritage, Geminent was founded by Karan Rawat to integrate Jaipur’s artisanal expertise with modern gemological standards. The company focused on precision cutting, quality enhancement, and the development of global trade relationships, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary business practices.

Incorporation of Geminent Asia Limited

To structure and expand its international operations, Geminent Asia Limited was incorporated in 2023. This milestone represents the culmination of the Rawat family’s three-century journey — from their origins near the royal mint at Chandi ki Tiksal to active participation in the global gemstone market.
